Type and Strategy of Code Switching Used by English Teachers in The Process of Teaching and Learning English

The purpose of this research were: (1) to describe type using code switching and (2) the strategy behind use made by English teachers in language teaching learning at SMAN 1 Padang Sago. This used descriptive qualitative design. population were all school who taught subject for 10th, 11th 12 th graders 2019 academic year . purposive sampling technique was employed which total 5 teachers. Instrumens collect data observation chceklist interview. In checklist, teachers’ utterancess categorized according types strategies belong to. To determine frequency emerging numberof that emerged count manulay. Then, percentage formula used. interview validate result gained from checklist. Finally, among 110 utterances , it found there 4%, tag tecaher, inter-sentential 36%, intra-sentential 60%,. On other hand, 10 proposed Hoffman (1991), teacher preferred only 4 are scosiisted expressing solidarity 48%, interjection7%, repetition 28%, clarification19%).
